More Newspaper Coverage!

The local newspaper (The Lock Haven Express) has been covering swimming a lot this year, thanks mostly to our great parents that continue to support their children in this great sport. Here are the two stories. one about a freshmen that's looking to make waves in the future in the pool, and the other is a senior that went out with her best swim ever. I've known Emily a long time, and I couldn't be more proud of her. I just got to know Jordan this year, and am looking forward to seeing what he can do over these next few years!

Dear Coaches, Parents, Booster Members and Family/Friends:

My family is having a fundraiser for the Michael Suter Memorial Football Scholarship and I would like to invite you to attend. This scholarship is presented each year to a deserving Central Mountain football player.

Many of you on this list knew my brother, but I know some of you did not. Please allow me to take a moment to tell you about him. Mike graduated from Lock Haven Senior High School in 1974 and subsequently attended Indiana University. He had many passions in life, including soccer coach, Boy Scout Leader, hunting and cooking; but one of his biggest passions was football. Whether it was playing football in high school and college, or later watching as a fan attending Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers games… my brother just loved the sport! In 2003, at the age of 47, my brother passed away while jogging near his home.

Although the scholarship is awarded primarily for excellence in football, our family also looks for strength of character, academic excellence and responsible involvement within the school and our community.

I hope you will consider joining our family for this worthwhile event!

Summer Swim Team FAQ

Do I have to be a good swimmer to join the team?
All you need to join the LHY summer swim team is be able to make it one length of the pool

Do I need to be a member of the Lock Haven YMCA to be on the team like in the winter?
No. The summer team does not compete in a YMCA summer league, so it does not require a membership. It will be run as a program (just like swim lessons) and will be $55 for members and $70 for potential members. There is an opportunity to get $5 off if you sign up May 11th or May 25th from 6-8 pm

Who will be coaching the summer swim team?
We will have two head coaches, Joel Blesh and Carol Matheney. We are hoping to have a few more as well. More will be posted on this as we have more details.

Do I have to buy a team suit?
We do not require you to buy a suit. In the winter time, we provide a team suit to all swimmers signed up. To keep summer costs down, we just have swimmers use that suit again for meets. We will have other merchandise available when the season gets closer.

Are meets held every weekend?
No. Meets are typically held during weeknights with the occasional Saturday morning thrown in. Meets are substantially shorter in the summertime.

I'm confused? What about the Mill Hall Muskrats?
The Lock Haven team will be replacing the Mill Hall team in the Bald Eagle Swim League.

What if there is no Mill Hall pool this summer?
Its what we're hoping for. In the long range planning of things, if the pool is closed this year that means there will be a pool project, and our community will have a great outdoor facility for the next few decades. If it is open this year, there will not be a project and it will simply be running until it can not be operated anymore. We will plan accordingly. We will have a schedule for both scenarios ready.

I'm going on two vacations this summer, what's the point?
Though summer swim team is just a short season compared to the winter, it is still very valuable when it comes to swimming development. No meets are required, so there is no pressure to skip the vacation to grandma's house in Florida because of a meet.

How many practices does my son or daughter have to attend?
Practice is not mandatory for the summer swim team. We will offer practice 5 days a week (on weeks where we do not have weekday meets). If your child is 10 and Under, it is recommended that they try to make it three times a week.
